About thoreaufare

A play on “thoroughfare”, the eponymous title for Henry David Thoreau, captures the tension between individuality and conformity, much like Thoreau did in his work.  Thoreau critiqued society’s routines and the way people often lead unexamined, overly materialistic lives.

Welcome to Thoreaufare, where the ghost of Thoreau examines our modern corporate lives of quiet desperation.  Critiquing the routines, rituals, processes, and lets be honest, people, who make the modern 9-5 in a corporate environment legitimately painful and comical at the same time.

Your ghost Thoreau narrator is a corporate lackey, working in a large financial institution, whistling quietly on a leisurely climb up the corporate ladder over the past 10 years, taking notes along the way, trying desperately to go unnoticed.

But what is it all worth?  And are there lessons we can bestow upon a new generation of corporate citizens to make their careers as colourful and successful as possible?  As Thoreau pointed out, “The mass of men live lives of quiet desperation”, and let us tell their story to the enjoyment and education of all.
