Thoreaufare: a blog about corporate success

Welcome to Thoreaufare, where the ghost of Thoreau examines modern corporate life with a hint of quiet desperation.  Articulating and gently critiquing the routines, rituals, processes, and people, in the modern 9-5 environment.

A play on “thoroughfare”, the eponymous title for Henry David Thoreau, captures the tension between individuality and conformity, much like Thoreau did in his work.  Thoreau critiqued society’s routines and the way people often lead unexamined, overly materialistic lives.

Your ghost Thoreau narrator is a corporate employee, working in a large financial institution in Canada, whistling quietly on a leisurely climb up the corporate ladder over the past 10 years, taking notes along the way, trying desperately to go unnoticed.

These are the tips, tools, and observiations accumulated over the years, from the tactical, to the strategic, to the downright ludicrous.

As Thoreau pointed out, “The mass of men live lives of quiet desperation” – let’s tell their story to the education and enjoyment of all.
